The Sinar rePro complete solution:
Sinar rePro RC CTM with Sinarback eXact, LC Shutter and eShutter system

Colour Accuracy Redefined

Sinar CTM (Colour To Match) multispectral dual-pass filter solution for highly accurate color reproduction in digital high-end photography. It corresponds to the visible spectrum of the human eye in the range of 380 - 730 nanometers. This dual filter solution has been engineered together with the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), Rochester, USA, and corrects for known color deficiencies in the Bayer pattern coating applied to photography CCD sensor arrays. CTM was developed exclusively for Sinar digital backs. This extreme colour accuracy is especially required in digitization of valuable cultural objects of art, in reprography, scientific and advertising photography. The results achieved are digital image files with unmatched colour accuracy that guarantee an efficient workflow and a high throughput.

Measurable Colour Accuracy

This graphical comparison illustrates the outstanding colour accuracy of Sinar CTM (Color To Match, left) compared to an image taken with a current, commercially available digital back (right). The arrow diagrams show the target/ actual results for the corresponding colors. Analysis of other digital backs may vary, but overall they show similar deviations from the nominal values.

The Professional Tool for Reproduction Photography

With the growing demand for digitization and archiving, the requirements on camera systems for reproduction photography have changed significantly. Essential aspects in the success of a modern reproduction camera are ease of operation, precision and stability. Large volumes of objects to be digitized require optimal workflow, needless to say that exposures which have to be repeated cause major waste of time resulting in extra costs. These criteria have been taken into account during the design and development process of the Sinar rePro. The result is a professional tool that fully meets the requirements for reproduction photography.

Precision and Simplicity

The legendary precision of Sinar view cameras for analog and digital studio photography is already well known and highly valued by a great number of users around the world. Based on the same standards, the Sinar rePro is specifically designed to meet the requirements of reproduction photography. On the Sinar rePro only the essential operating elements have been implemented, the resulting simplicity of operation leads to an optimal reliability and prevents handling errors. The Sinar rePro fits seamlessly in the universal Sinar System and it provides an easy workflow with maximum accuracy.

Sinar rePro RC (Remote Control)

The RC version is a motorized camera and offers optimum user comfort. A stepper-motor provides convenient, remote controlled focusing by use of the remote control unit or can be software controlled via a USB connection to the computer. As a result, a large throughput of photographs can be achieved.

High-tech stepper motors
For the Sinar rePro RC high quality stepper motors are used for longevity. They feature high degree step angle accuracy and step resolution. Externally controlled two speed levels can be selected which correspond to a coarse and a fine focus adjustment. Along with the brilliant and big live image of the Sinarbacks, this feature allows quick and precise focusing.

Comfortable Operation
The electronic control is an important contribution to its ease of use. The throughput of pictures is significantly increased because the operator can work more efficiently from the computer workstation. Therefore, the Sinar rePro RC can also be easily operated when it is placed above where manual access for focusing is more difficult. Integrated sensors serve as a safeguard against overstretching to protect the bellows.

Focusing with Sinar CaptureFlow SW
Operating the Sinar rePro RC is also possible via capturing software CaptureFlow. The camera is equipped with a USB port to directly connect it to the computer. The computer placement is more flexiblebecasue it's no longer necessary to stand it next to the camera. Sinar CaptureFlow also features a sharpness indicator for fast and precise focusing.

Sinar parallel — laser beam alignment device...

Flatness
The basis for the accurate image sharpness in reprography is the perfect flatness of the object to be captured and the parallel alignment of the camera. Sinar parallel provides valuable assistance and is an excellent device for precise camera adjustments. A battery powered red laser beam allows precise alignments. An accuracy that cannot be reached by the former spirit levels method.

Function
Sinar parallel works by means of projection of a red laser beam which is reflected by a mirror. The device is placed on the capturing table and the supplied mirror is mounted above on the camera. Precise flatness is achieved when the red laser beam exactly hits the middle of the crosshairs of the Sinar parallel device.

Adjustment

Precise adjustment must be done on the camera stand adapter. Sinar offers specific adapter plates for Kaiser and Foba. Dedicated adjustment screws allow precise alignment of the X- and Y-axes, enabling perfectly parallel shooting alignment.

Sinar rePro Camera

Introduction repro_right
As a result of the rapidly growing demand for digitalization and the related requirement for efficient and effective archiving, the features required in a reproduction camera have changed considerably. Two critical factors in the design of a modern reproduction camera are convenient operation and the utmost in precision. And where a high volume throughput of subjects is to be digitized, an optimum workflow is a must because exposures which need repeating cause serious delays and add considerably to costs. These criteria were taken into account as major considerations in the development process of Sinar's new rePro camera. The result is a camera that meets the requirements of Reproduction Photography without limitations.

Precision
repro_detail
The legendary precision of Sinar view cameras for analog and digital photography is widely known and highly valued by professional users around the world. And the subject of sharpness has become significantly more important since the advent of digital photography. Therefore, to be assured of optimum results, it's especially important to use a camera which offers the right mix of features in terms of precision, stability and convenient operation. The new Sinar rePro is based on existing components of the legendary Sinar p3 camera. Its compact design is ideal for digital reproduction photography and this increases the overall stability of the camera for pixel-precise settings. Operating the ingeniously fast fine-focusing drive, make it very obvious that this high-end camera was crafted with high precision and the tightest of tolerances. The newly developed fine focusing drive is based entirely on the demands of digital photography – one full turn effects a change in distance of only 0.5 mm.

Modularity
Entirely in keeping with classic Sinar philosophy, the new Sinar rePro camera features the much admired modularity which is often praised by our Users. This means that all lens and shutter systems with the exception of CAB and which are already in use with the Sinar p3 camera, can also be used on the new Sinar rePro camera. In addition to the CPL (Copal) and CMV series lenses, the Sinar rePro will also accept lenses mounted in the new Sinar eShutters. Digital back support includes many Sinarback versions and several backs made by other manufacturers. These can readily be used by means of the appropriate adapters, many of which are already available for the Sinar p3 camera.

Operation

When compared with a studio view camera, the operating elements of the new Sinar rePro camera are limited strictly to the essential controls needed for efficient reproduction photography. The camera features a new and improved fast focusing system which makes for remarkably easy operation to assure a much more efficient workflow. When used with Sinar CaptureShop software and the new Sinar eShutters, the automation and setting of both aperture and shutter speeds in software make the operation of the camera effortless. This of course promises consistent and optimum results. One very desirable advantage is that camera precision tolerances are actually enhanced by the elimination of the swing and tilt mechanisms, making the Sinar rePro camera the most modern solution for applications in professional Reproduction Photography.

Suitable for High-Volume Digitisation
repro_left
Sinar Cameras and Sinar Digital Backs already enjoy a significant market share in Government Institutions around the world. Whether used in State Libraries, Galleries or Museums, the Sinar rePro is the ideal tool for projects that require the archiving of important and valuable records and works of art.

Easy to Use

The Sinar rePro camera is easy to use whether operated by digital professionals or novice users alike.

Consistent & Reliable
Sinar's precision and proven quality promises consistent and reliable results making shooting large-volume projects a breese, by preventing errors in operation which in turn reduces the need for costly re-shoots. However, it is spacious enough to accept the camera, digital back, magnifier, two lenses and a spare battery. In this event, everything can be packed that's required to shoot with the arTec outdoors. Case dimensions: approx. 48 x 40 x 15 cm.

The case for the Sinar arTec-e54r and the Sinar arTec-e75r is a bit larger than the above-mentioned case, however it's still small enough that it can be taken onto an airplane as carry-on baggage. The case accepts the camera and digital back with accessories such as cables, battery charger, cleaning kit, magnifier and two lenses. Case dimensions: approx. 52 x 44 x 23 cm.

Sinaron Digital CEF Lenses...

The Sinaron Digital CEF range of lenses is made for use with the Sinar arTec camera. Sinaron Digital lenses were designed specifically to meet the high demands of digital photography. All Sinaron Digital Lenses have a resolving power of at least 50 line pairs/mm over the entire image circle of the lens. Sinaron Digital HR Lenses feature a resolving power of at least 60 line pairs/mm. This ensures that the resolving capability of a modern medium format digital back can really deliver the best optical results.

Sinaron Digital CEF lenses are available in the following focal lengths:
HR 23, HR 28, HR 35, HR 40, 45, 55, HR 60, 70, 90, HR 100, and 135mm.

Sinaron CEF lenses for the arTec are adjusted in such a way that when the helical focusing mount is set at the limit stop, the lens is set exactly to focus at infinity.

For detailed information on the Sinaron Digital CEF range of lenses, please refer to the specific page on Sinaron Digital CEF arTec Lenses, which can be found here.

Filter / Bellows Holder...

The Filter-/bellows holder 100 is made to be mounted onto the front of a lens by means of a Lens adapter ring and accepts one filter of 100 x 100 x 1 mm and one Sinar bellows with a 100 mm frame. The Filter-/bellows holder 100 can be used e.g. to build a bellows lens hood or to place a 100 mm Neutral density filter (ND) or a special effect filter in front of the lens.

Focusing Magnifier — 551.32.086
focusing magnifier

The Sinar Focusing magnifier features 3x magnification—whilst at the same time allowing you to view or scan the entire focusing screen at once. The eyecup can be rotated and set to your personal dioptric eyepiece adjustment. The integral and flexible bellows, which is located between the magnifier housing and the focusing screen attachment plate, enables the user to view or scan the entire focusing screen—even when the maximum degree of camera movements are employed. And the bundle of light rays is not blocked by the Fresnel lens, because it is located under the focusing screen.

A well-designed Focusing Magnifier makes for closer, more-accurate shooting concentration.
The significance of being able to view or scan the entire focusing screen all the way to the image corners—even with extremely short focal length lenses—makes the arTec camera a dream to use.

The Magnifier is part of the scope of delivery for the Sinar arTec camera, however, it's also available separately.

Lens Shade 493.23.041

artec lens shade

Why use a lens shade?
With an unprotected lens, bright stray light external to the subject area can reduce image contrast noticeably. And this is why a lens shade is an indispensable tool in Professional Photography. However, a lens shade can only provide best protection against stray light when it is optimally tailored to the picture angle of the lens. And because the sources of stray light are so diverse—and may vary with the properties of the many different types of lenses, Sinar offers two completely different lens shade solutions:

arTec Lens Shade

The one-piece Artec Lens Shade consists of two folding and two sliding panels and is affixed to the Lens Adapter Ring by means of a manual fastening screw. The Artec Lens Shade can be rotated freely around the Lens Adapter Ring, therefore it can be positioned accurately in order to exclude sources of stray light. In addition, the lens shade is designed for universal application and can be used with lenses of all focal lengths.

Polarizing filters are especially useful for eliminating distracting reflections in photography. swivelling polarising filter
The swiveling Sinar Polarizing Filter is mounted onto the Sinar arTec camera by means of the optional Rod Holder and the use of a Bellows/Filter Rod. In addition, the entire circular polarising filter can be rotated around the axis of the Filter Rod—by 180 degrees—to facilitate easy determination of the polarisation angle—without viewing through the lens. The filter itself can then be swung back into the optical axis—then pushed gently up against the lens along the Filter Rod—then locked in place as can be seen here.

White Shading Diffuser — 551.43.097

shading diffuser for the removal of lens casts

In digital photography, the use of a well-designed White Shading Diffuser eliminates lens casts and centrefold issues and optionally allows control over the degree of vignetting. The lens cast and/or centrefold effect is more evident with wide-angle lenses than it is with normal or long focal length lenses, however, the use of a shading file vastly improves the uniformity of many images. Sinar's method for the attachment of the diffuser—using the Filter Ring—helps vastly to eliminate any sources of stray light, especially from behind the camera.

In practice, the principle is to make two exposures; a Shading File and "the" Image File. These two files will be subsequently processed together using the excellent "Shading Mode" feature built right into shading diffuserSinar's eXposure Software. To make a Shading File—after initially setting up the shot and determining correct exposure—the White Shading Diffuser is attached to the lens using a Filter Ring. Then a "Shading File" image is made using the exact same aperture, focused distance and any camera movements—set exactly as will be employed in the subsequent real image. However, for the shading shot, you typically need to increase the length of the exposure using shutter speed by around two f-stops to compensate for the exposure factor of the diffuser—but don't alter anything else. Sometimes there's a difference in exposure with variation either way—subject to how much ambient light is incident or reflects upon the diffuser—however, it's a relatively simple matter to alter the shutter speed setting only, in order to compensate. A good shading exposure has the histogram peak roughly positioned in the centre—or slightly higher, however, it is recommended not to over or under-expose the shading file for best results!

Shading Correction Example Images

uncorrected image shading correction applied to image

The first image was made with the Sinaron Digital 28mm HR lens with the White Shading Diffuser in place.
Lens casts and vignetting are immediately apparent. The second image shows the "shaded" result after Shading correction is applied in eXposure software and importantly, the shading correction is applied to a NEW dng file.

In the example above, 100% vignetting correction was applied. And in this case, the application of Sinar's Shading Correction has effectively equalised the tonal and spectral response for all pixels in the entire array. However, in the event you prefer to retain some of the natural vignetting or lens fall-off towards the image borders, you can optionally specify a lower vignetting setting in Sinar's eXposure software. The settings available are 0, 25, 50, 75 & 100%.

software setting for lens cast removalHere's the on-thumbnail setting used for the above shaded image example.
In this case, the four white quadrants indicate that 100% vignetting correction will be used.
And by simply clicking these quadrants with the mouse, they can be toggled on and off to set other degrees of vignetting correction.

A superb Sinar camera for the working Pro…

Sinar lanTec camera Produced in Switzerland by Swiss Engineers, the Sinar lanTec camera features controls for image management that are integrated into the camera. These so-called camera movements can be used with the entire range of dedicated Sinaron Digital CEF lenses. As an example, you can shift the CCD/image standard laterally—within the lens’s image circle—to create overlapping image tiles, to be subsequently stitched together. The shift range is set effortlessly up to 20mm left and right—effectively increasing the virtual area of your CCD and making new image aspect ratios in the process—for larger, more detailed files. In addition, you can raise the lens by up to 25mm, or lower it by up to 15mm, which helps prevent convergent or divergent verticals when shooting architecture. In the event you wish to make stitched, rotational panoramic pictures, it’s good to know the tripod mount is physically located on the optical axis, however, for hand-held use, the tripod base can be removed quickly, thanks to its rapid and secure locking mechanism. There are optional, silky-smooth ergonomic grips, which provide security in handling, making the Sinar lanTec an essential tool for mobile indoor and outdoor shooting by all Photographers. As for composing the image, your Apple iPhone or iPod Touch can be connected to the lanTec via a special Sinar rotating adapter. This serves as a viewfinder which can quickly be set for either portrait or landscape orientation and which provides a brilliant image for composing and also for leveling the camera. You will need the Viewfinder Pro App available from the Apple App Store. There's also a focusing screen available.

Sinar p3-df (digital focus) — 491.82.000

Optimized for Digital Photography
The new fine focus feature of the Sinar p3-df offers perfect and precise focusing with amazing high-end digital studio photography convenience. Fine focus accuracy improved by 30%.

The Sinar p3 camera is the perfect tool for digital photography.
Featuring high precision self-locking drives and convenient self-arresting movements.
Thanks to its smaller size and unique integrated cabling, the new Sinar p3 is the ideal choice for use with both Sinar and third-party digital backs.

Optimized for Digital Input

Digital imaging technology has revolutionized photography. Compared to conventional film of the same size, small sensor surfaces can record far more image information. Yet the creative fundamentals of photography have not changed. In view camera photography especially, this includes the capability of achieving desired pictorial effects with the judicious positioning of planes of sharpness and with optical perspective correction. Sinar has been a leader in the manufacture of view cameras for more than 50 years and is proud to have more than 10 years of experience as the leading supplier of high-end digital cameras.

Man as the measure of things

Sinar has succeeded in optimally combining the precision of the Sinar p line of cameras with the digital input of Sinarback digital backs. Thanks to a coupling frame that is 30% smaller, the imaging surfaces of Sinarback digital backs are optimally suited for swings and tilts. The self-locking drives allow highly precise focusing – the camera accurately maintains the settings. The human hand served as the reference guide for the size, shape and handiness of the operating elements, for smooth and precise work even in darkened rooms. Practical new ergonomic locks allow easy and quick changing of lenses, bellows and digital backs by just pressing them with a finger. Visual design elements give the Sinar p3 a trendy appearance.

Handy and only a single cable

The fully compatible Sinar Digital System allows the attachment of all Sinarback digital backs to the new camera with only one cable for data transmission and power supply. The Sinar p3 features integrated electrical couplings that directly connect the digital back with the shutter, thus reducing distracting cables at the camera to a minimum.

Sinaron Digital CMV lenses – with electronic between-the-lens shutter

The Sinaron Digital CMV Lens with an electronically controlled between-the-lens shutter is mounted on a lens board with 100 mm sides. This shutter makes absolutely vibration-free exposures possible as needed for Multishot with perfect colors (4-shot mode) or for the highest detail resolution (16-shot mode). The new between-the-lens shutter is controlled by the Sinar CaptureShop™ software. Therefore, no additional or separate controlling device is needed for the lenses.

Practical accessories

The adjustment settings and ranges of the new Sinar p3 view camera are optimized for use with Sinarback digital backs. The asymmetric swing and tilt axes can be displayed in the live image of the Sinar CaptureShop™, allowing an easy and pixel-accurate positioning of the plane of sharpness. In addition, an accessory standard, tailored to the size and to the adjustment range, is available for bellows extensions or for the use of a bellows as a lens hood.

The Sinar p3 is fully integrated into Sinar modular system. This means that the 4x5” carrier frame and digital accessories of the Sinar p2 can be attached to the Sinar p3 by means of a tapered bellows and effortless ease. This also applies to the use of Sinar digital back adapters as well as the Sinar Macroscan for greatly increased resolution (up to 144 million pixels) and a greater digital imaging area (up to 6x6 cm). It also applies to the use of a Sinar p3 for chemical photography with roll film holders and sheet film up to 4x5”.

Features

  • Ideal for digital studio photography. With the auxiliary of a Sliding adapter also suited for photography on 120 and 220 roll film.
  • The yaw-free design of the Sinar p3 lets you combine swings and tilts with no time-consuming readjustments.
  • The Sinar p3 is based on the unique asymmetric tilts and swings, not the traditional center or base tilts. This means rapid and precise settings, without ever loosing sharpness on the axis.
  • You can calculate exact swings and tilts in seconds using the asymmetric movements and measuring scales. You won´t have to guess at your movements anymore, and it´s fast - very fast. How?
  • All Sinar p3 movements are gear driven and feature zero position click stops.
  • The Sinar p3´s precision micrometer drives are smooth and self-arresting. Once a movement is set, it stays. You get easy one-hand operation, and no more wrestling with locking knobs.
  • Depth of field calculator tells you exactly how much depth of filed you need for your image, forever eliminating excessive stopping down.
  • Compatible with the proven Sinar System of accessories.
  • Accepts all Sinaron and Sinaron Digital CMV lenses that can be mounted on a 100 mm lens board. When used in conjunction of a Sinar m camera also all Sinaron Digital CAB lenses mounted on a 100 mm lens board can be used.
